Driving lesson advice

Postby paul » Wed Jul 26, 2006 1:48 pm

Hello

Could you give me some general advice re driving lessons. My girlfriend has just started taking some again. She previously took a number of lessons, but then moved to London before taking her test. This was a few years ago. Her instructor has told her people need an average of 50 driving lessons before taking a test. This is seems rather excessive to me, I certainly don't recall taking that many. What do you feel is a reasonable amount of lessons to take before having a test, if you have previously taken lessons?

Also she bought a CD ROM theory test a couple of months ago & has just found out they are changing the test this month. Is it likely to change by very much & would it worth buying an updated CD is one was available?

Thanks very much
Paul

Hello Paul,

It’s a difficult question to answer but 50 hours is not uncommon, the Driving Standards Agency recommend 45 hours plus lots of private practice http://www.dsa.gov.uk/Cars.asp?cat=171 I have taught people to drive in a lot less time and I have taken students who have had hundreds of lessons. It’s like when ever we learn anything new, it can sometimes take a while and some of us are quicker learners than others. No matter how clever we think we are. And I will just say most people chooses to take there driving test before they are actually ready which is why the pass rate is just 35%.

Hi. Could you give me any advice as to whether you think I should buy the new CD Rom theory test. I bought one earlier this year for 2005/2006 but my driving instructor said that they get renewed every july. Do they change dramatically? Is it worth buying a new one? Or should i be okay with my current one?
Thanks for any advice.

They normally bring a new edition out every year and ad a few new things. They don't change that dramatically, If you had one that was a few years old I would advise you to buy a new copy, Yours will be fine.
