Why the pass rate is low at Hither Green

Hither Green is one of two driving test centers in south east London the other  is South Norwood. Hither Green can conduct up to 1000 driving tests each month, but why do up to 65% of candidates fail? thats well over 600 unhappy candidates every month.

Taking the driving test before you are actually ready for it. The standard of driving required to pass the driving test is high, even for young people it is not uncommon to need 50 hours of professional tuition to reach driving test standard, if you have never driven before, sometimes even more. International and full driving licence holders from other countries not taking advice from a professional driving instructor. Hither Green DTC sees a large number of candidates who have international driving licences or driving licences from other countries or people who have been driving around for years without a licence. It can be quite difficult to adapt there driving skills to a standard where they will pass the driving test, A lot of the time it is not because they can not drive, it is just because they are used to driving there own way, like a lot of British motorists if they were to take there driving test again a large percentage would fail. If you full into this category it would be unlikely you would pass a UK driving test without seeking the advice of a qualified driving standards agency approved driving instructor (ADI).

Can you be good enough but still fail? Yes you can, But this only makes up for a small percentage that fail.. If you have a good driving instructor who as told you " you have reached the standard required to pass" and you feel yourself you can pass there is no reason why you should fail... But you are only human and therefore you are capable of making mistakes, especially when under pressure.

Do driving examiners just fail people for no reason? 99 % of the time No.

  • Those who are good enough will pass.
  • Those who are not good enough will fail.
  • Then you have those that are in between. These are down to the driving examiners discretion.

During your driving test you must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the highway code in your driving, you must be able to manage your vehicle safely and confidently. If you do this you will pass
